LED's in Projectors & Audi-esque DRL's?

I've seen this done a few time by various retrofitters. Anyone care to shed some light on how these are done.

I'm pretty basic in my understanding of LED's as most of my experience is with direct bulb replacements or my massive Christmas Light display

What type of LED's are being used?
Where exactly inside the projectors are the LED's mounted?

Again, same questions except for the Audi style DRL's?

I've seen tons of stuff on ebay & sites like www.superbrightleds.com. Here's a few examples...

Please steer me the right direction on this. Thanks in advance!

I'm not a pro and not speaking from first hand experience,

but from what it looks like to me, they used a thin LED strip, maybe one like

from Oznium.com and wrapped it around the projector behind the halo with the LED's facing inward towards the projector.

as for the "audi style led's" I did something like that but just getting the thin led strips from the previous post and using the provided 3M double sided tape, I applied it directly onto the headlights.

it came out looking like this

thank you. if you get the LED strips's from Oznium, they would be brighter than the ones I got, but the downside is that they cost twice as much.

if I get the nerve to try and open up my lights, I'd try to put the led strip inside somewhere

I seen led strips on a 350Z yesturday, thought it came out pretty nice.

I dun think that racers used LED strips, so can't be RICE (race inspired cosmetic enhancement) [i think that's what it means right?] =P

Wow... who the HELL came up with all of those rules? Most of them are funny and are very true...

I think the LED strips being taped to the car MIGHT be a bit of a stretch, but all is fair when retrofitting. If you are going to pay nearly a grand to do a customized retrofit, why the hell would you not do what you like?

If all attempts to put LED strips in the headlamps are FAIL (when compared to Audi), then all attempts to retrofit a car that does not come standard with HID projectors may as well be FAIL also...

yeah i've done it

the problem with this is that led's are very sensitive to heat and they'll fail. put them in your projectors and i'd be counting their lifespan in hours or days, not months.

I'm not sure, I may be just pulling this outta nowhere, but I think I heard that as heat increases, the LEDs try to draw more current, and without proper current limiting techniques they would avalanche themselves into being fried
