jdm bugeye retrofit
after reading caesar's post on retrofitting jdm bugeye headlights over and over again, i decided to go and retrofit mine.
TSX projectors philips D2S bulbs unknown ballast from HID kit hit kit connectors to D2S connector heres everything taken apart ![]() plans for the bracket ![]() 1 hour later, and smoking hot dremel and cooked hand ![]() test fit into bracket ![]() as you could see, im trying to use the stock mounting location hopefully that would work out. question tho, could i clamp the projector together with the bracket, or should i clamp it down with a nut first, then mount it on to the bracket? this is only day 1. more to come Last edited by disaster999; 07-22-2007 at 12:58 AM.. |

updates...
so today i jumped on the headlights right after work and finished up one side of the headlight. everything went really smoothly. shaved off enough material to have the projector sit flush with the bracket. got some screws and temporary hold it in place to check for clearance. projector is color modded. ![]() once everything was perfect. i jb weld the threads so it would never back out. mounted everything together. shoved it into the oven and sandwished the 2 halves together ![]() notice how my projector sit higher near the top of the housing. totally opposite of what caesar did with his. Mine arent low actually, I center mine using the same point as the stock projector.
Hopefully the way you have it done doesnt cause any issues, it seems like you have really limited your adjustment now, and unless your lights are aimed high, its going to look uneven... Well let us know!

heres what it looks like once its aimed
![]() i get what you mean caesar that i run out of adjustments. the back of the projector hits the top of the opening at the back. i might need to do some modifications do that or trim the metal tabs on the projectors, which ever way is the easiest. |

work with the tabs first. That came out very centered though, i like what you did as long as they are aimed correctly, which you said they are.

i actually found the problem, opened up the headlights again and found the screws i used were too long and was preventing anymore adjustments. got that fixed and finally aimed perfectly.
projector sits right in the middle of the housing. im very pleased at the end results. |

very nice, I think im going to change the way I mount my TSX's from now on. Only thing that I wonder is how you got it to sit that high.

i just kept grinding away at the bracket till the top stock hole location on the projector lines up with the top stock hole location on the jdm bracket.
i like how the projector looks to be sitting right in the middle of the housing. but the cap that goes on the back of the headlight needs to be grind down. it prevents the projector from tilting too far down. let me show you what i mean ![]() crude picture, but as you can see, the projector hits the top of the opening at the back of the projector and cant put the cap back on. the way how you did it, sure the projector sits lower and have this gap, but you dont have to worry about the fit. me on the other hand have almost perfectly centered projectors, but lots of clearance issues Last edited by disaster999; 07-26-2007 at 11:02 AM.. |
